Philproof® large Baffle

This baffle was specifically designed by industry experts to prevent possums accessing the bait while attempting a rodent only pulse. If the baffle was too high, rats can't get in. If it is too low, possums can still access bait. This product has been field tested and proven to be the optimal dimensions.

This baffle is an effective tool to help you be more specific with your baiting operations and can save a group considerable amounts of money when compared to the amount of bait lost each night to possums. 1KG of pellet can bait costs around $10, and a possum can eat most of this in one sitting and not consume the lethal dose. Rodents are often the biggest threat to native birds in your area so controlling them first allows for efficient control of possums afterwards.

The baffle can be retrofitted to your existing large Philproof® bait station floor using self-tapping screws, nuts and bolts or pop rivets. It can be removed just as easy to allow possums access again. The floor can still be easily removed while refilling the bait.

There is a double sided baffle available, which is in two pieces. This makes the floor reversible. See video attached for instructions.

The baffle has the added benefit of preventing bait spillage, though block bait can be used where this is an issue too.

The Kaharoa Kokako Trust has recently had very good success using these Philproof® baffles, using them on a three-year cycle.

• First year is 1080 bait dispensed in the Philproof® bait stations to knock down the possums, plus the added benefit of stoat/feral cat by-kill.
• Year two is pindone to target the ship rats. Baffle are used to prevent the few possums around taking the bait
• Year three is pindone bait again with baffles. Possums are attracted to the feed but get frustrated. At the end of the pulse, Feratox bags are used to knock out the possums as at this stage, there are no rats around to take them away.
• On year 4, the cycle begins again, albeit with less bait
